This was a very interesting project, trying to work out how the ancients made these things. This style of Iconic Tourque is made of heavy hand forged round stock, made into a large loop and tourqued or twisted. The ends are then built up in bee's wax to make smooth bulbous terminals, a clay or ceramic mould is then made around that, the top of the mould opened and the design carved into the ceramic itself. After that is done the mould is re-closed on the terminal ends, it is heated until the wax and carbon are gone then the metal is cast around the now bare stock ends remaining inside the ceramic mould....I can't say for certain that was the exact method used, but it sure ends up looking the business.
